The Last Voyage of the Demeter Box Office Prediction

Universal hopes that horror fans board The Last Voyage of the Demeter when it opens August 11th. Based on a chapter from Bram Stoker’s signature novel Dracula, André Øvredal (maker of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) directs Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, David Dastmalchian, Javier Botet, Liam Cunningham, and Woody Norman in the tale of passengers trying to surviving a trip from Transylvania to London.

The Dracula angle could succeed in getting some genre fans out, but this Voyage‘s marketing campaign seems to be lacking. At this point, the studio might settle for a premiere similar to its Idris Elba starrer Beast, which took in nearly $12 million in mid-August last year. It could also debut in range with the vampiric The Invitation, which didn’t reach $7 million a week after Beast opened.

A gross closer to The Invitation as opposed to Beast is where this might land.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter opening weekend prediction: $6.4 million

  1. I have a good feeling about this film. Old fashion horror fans might appreciate a movie with no screaming teenagers in it. The movie is based upon a classic novel literature fans might be curious about. This Dracula as the adds portray is a horrifying creature and not the charming aristicractic gentleman we’re use too. This is not a comedy but a gothic chiller. And u can say what u will but Dracula is still a money making character. As long as u have the right people exploiting it. U r right about Universal not giving the film the publicity it deserves. They should have midnight shows and a promotion of the first 1,000 patrons will receive a free copy of the novel Dracula. ( Maybe the kids will read it) As far as releasing this film in late summer. Remember such films like The Exorcist, released the day after Christmas and Silence of the Lambs released around Valentine’s day. Not exactly holiday Christmas fare nor romantic fantasy. If the critics give it a favorable write-up this film will be a sleeper hit worldwide. Word of mouth from the trailers look great and I know horror fans r anxious about this one. A good director, a good cast, a sound script. I smell a winner. Horror fans proove this guy wrong.
