Centered on the opioid crisis in rural Ohio, Union County blends actors with real recovering addicts in an indie pic that premiered at Sundance. Written and directed by Adam Meeks, the film is out in limited release this weekend. Will Poulter, Noah Centineo, Elise Kibler, Emily Meade, and Annette Deao lead the cast.

With 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 72 Metacritic, critics are appreciating the drama that utilized a real drug court in the Buckeye State as a shooting location. Poulter and Centineo are receiving kudos in addition to the non-actors. However, I doubt the exposure for Union will be wide enough for the Academy to take note.
